Important answers to your questions

Top of the morning to you out there!  I'm Donna J Jodhan at the business desk and it's that time again for me to open up our e-mail bag and answer some of your questions.  We received some feedback asking for me to be a bit less wordy and try and answer more of your questions.  So, I'll do my best.
Here we go.
Question from Rick Grazi:  Can you give me a few tips on how to attract more of those consumers with special needs?  What types of consumers would be ones with special needs?  I own a travel agency.
Answer:  Rick, consumers with special needs are many but the most common types of consumers with special needs are those who:  Have a physical disability, those who are hard of hearing, those who are visually impaired, those with learning or mental disabilities, aging baby boomers, seniors, and those with small kids.  You need to take your time and research what types of needs these types of consumers would have when travelling.
For example:  For those with physical disabilities, you would need to ensure that they can access their rooms, restaurants, and washrooms among other places with their wheelchairs and walkers.  For those who are hard of hearing, that they can have access to sign language services.  For those who are blind or visually impaired, that there will be staff on hand to provide them with guiding services.  Also, that there would be accommodations made for their guide dogs if they require such types of services.  For families with young kids or toddlers, that there would be services available to meet the needs of families seeking services for their kids.

Question from Stella Reed:  I've written a book but am not sure where I can go to publish it.  Can you help me?
Answer:  Stella, I have a few general tips for you.
You need to decide if you want to publish an e book or a hard copy book and your decision should be based on the length of your book.  If the book is less than 60 pages then you may want to consider the e book route.  However if it's longer, then you may want to consider the hard copy route.
Most self-publishing companies seem to prefer publishing hard copy books because it brings them more revenue.  However, with e books you need to do your research and ensure that you format it properly into PDF versions.
A lot for you to consider and if you have any further questions then drop me an email at editor@untappedwealth.com.  I will be happy to give you more tips and answer any further questions.

Question from Claire Dupont:  Hi Donna, I'm thinking of opening up a transcription service and running it from home but I'm not sure how to go about finding clients.  Can you give me some hints on who may be looking for transcription services?
Answer:  Hi Claire, I think that most of the experts are saying that medical clinics, hospitals, lawyers offices, and movie studios are seeking transcription services these days more than anyone else.  There are practically millions of patient records that need to be transcribed from paper files to electronic format.  Likewise for the files of clients of lawyers.  Many movie studios are seeking transcribers to transcribe videos to electronic format so that they can have easy access to transcripts of videos.  Of course, there is also a need for those transcribers who are able to transcribe in more than one language.

Question from Dave Bean:  What is your opinion on opportunities for translators in China and India?
Answer:  Dave, excellent.  China and India are two of the fastest growing economies in the world today and these two countries are practically screaming for translators to help spread their info to the West.  The beauty about this type of opportunity is that you don't have to travel to either of these two countries to work.  You can do it from the comfort of your home and here is where the Internet comes into play.  So many companies these days are using the Internet to find skilled professionals to work for them.  It's cheaper for them to employ someone who works over the Internet rather than having them onsite.

Question from Gary Sprat:  How can I make my newsletter work for me?  That is, how can I use my newsletter to bring in more clients?
Answer:  Gary, a newsletter is an excellent way to market your company.  However, there are some tips that I have for you.
First, don't make your newsletter too lengthy and don't publish it too often.
Second, be concise about what you offer.
Third, only send your newsletter to those existing and potential customers who you truly believe are seeking your services and products.
Fourth, Give the recipients of your newsletter the option to provide you with feedback and also ask them to pass along your newsletter to other interested parties.
Fifth, best to offer your newsletter for free if you can and here's where the online newsletter comes in.

That's it for this week.  Please keep sending us your questions and we will do our best to answer them.
At the business desk, I'm Donna J Jodhan wishing you a great day.

Important answers to important questions

Top of the morning to you!  I'm Donna J Jodhan at the business desk and it's time to open up our e-bag.  Before doing so however, I'd like to thank those of you who sent in your questions and your feedback.  Unfortunately, it is not possible for us to answer all of your questions so please bare with us.  Please continue to send us your questions and we will do our best to answer them.
Today I have pulled a few questions and will do my best to answer them.

From Doris Gentler:  I would like to know your thoughts on setting up a specialty foods store to sell health foods for diabetics.  Could you give me some tips?
Answer:  Doris, I will do my best.  If you are thinking of setting up such a business venture, then here is what I think you should consider.
First, will your store be an online one or one in a mall.  If you choose to go online then you need to do a lot of research to determine what types of products you wish to sell, and you need to set up a website that is easy to find, easy to access, and easy to navigate.
If you choose to set up a store in a mall or plaza, then you need to consider such factors as location, what you are going to sell, to whom, and you also need to develop an advertising and marketing plan that will accommodate your budget and objectives.  In fact, any sort of venture like this one will require you to develop sound advertising and marketing plans.  To answer your question though, I do believe that a business venture like the one that you're considering would be one that has the potential to meet the demands of millions of consumers both here in America as well as abroad.

Question from Justin Kilwitz:  Do you believe that there are riches in niches?
Answer:  Justin, yes.  Time and time again we see where someone who has taken the time to imagine and create is quite successful at finding riches in niches.  For example:  The bottled water company and the person who first came up with this idea.  The person who started a company in Michigan not too long ago to create artificial wedding cakes.  The young man in Ontario Canada who collects and refurbishes golf balls for resale.  The company in Britain that sells eggs that contain shells that change color based on the stage of being cooked; that is this company has developed an egg that turns various colors during its stage of being cooked in boiling water.  The trick of the trade according to many experts is to study the demands of consumers, listen to what they are demanding, and then build your product service around the demand.  Too many people go the other way and try to dictate to the market instead of listening first before acting.

Question from Kate Danson:  What are your thoughts on using newsletters to market your small business?
Answer:  Kate, newsletters are a great marketing tool for a small business.  Whether online or offline, and by that I mean you can either send it via email or use the good old fashion way of printed newsletters.
However, there are a few tips that I would pass on and here they are.
First, if you are sending them via email, then send them as word attachments and to recipients that you know who would be interested in reading them.  It is not a very good idea to send them to unknown recipients.
Second, make sure that your newsletter is concise, well-written, and easy to read and understand.
Third, if you send them in printed format, send them to persons who you believe will be interested in reading them.  Do not bombard your recipients with too many newsletters.  That is, not too often but at the same time often enough for them to remember who you are and what you are selling.

That's it for this week.  I hope that my answers to your questions have been helpful.
At the business desk, I'm Donna J Jodhan wishing you a great day.

Important answers to important questions

Top of the morning to you!  I'm Donna J Jodhan and it's time for us to open up our E-bag and pull out a few questions for today's blog.
Thank you so much for all of your feedback and we hope that our answers can help you to solve some of your concerns.
Before starting off, I have a wee apology to make and that is:  I said last week that SAD stands for seasonal adjusted depression.  I was wrong!  SAD stands for seasonal affected depression.  Thank you Brandon Connelly for bringing this to our attention.
Now for our questions of the week.
From Justin Holt:  Do you think that companies would listen to their customers and bring back their call centers from India to North America?  What can consumers do to put pressure on them?
Answer:  Justin, the only way to pressure these companies into reversing their actions is for us all to do things like write letters, send emails, make phone calls, and change service providers.  These companies are telling us that they've done this in order to reduce their overhead costs but in so doing they have inadvertently ticked off millions of customers, deprived millions in North America of jobs, and they have employed call takers who don't speak English very well, have not been trained in proper phone etiquette, and their product knowledge is way below standard.  I personally consider it an insult when I have to speak to someone who does not understand my questions, he/she doesn't understand me, and we end up frustrating each other.  In addition, I take grave exception to someone calling me and addressing me by my last name.  No salutations, just "I want to speak to Jodhan."

Question from Greg Saskin:  What is your advice on using self-publishing companies to publish and sell your book on the Internet?
Answer:  Greg, a lot of these self-publishing companies talk a good talk but often don't walk the talk.  That is, they charge you lots to publish your book and they don't really market it for you.  Yes, they put it up on Amazon and they tell you that they can have it sold by those top book retailers but in essence it's you the author who has to do most of the marketing for yourself.  They charge you extra to write press releases for you and these press releases are often of poor quality.  What I'm saying is that it may be better for you to publish your own book and sell it yourself.  You can put your book, if it's not too large, in PDF format and sell it through your own website, and places like ClickBank, sell it also through Paypal, and through your own website.  I will caution you though that if you do the work yourself you will need to do your homework and decide on your own marketing plan.  It's very doable.

Question from Karen Wright:  How long should I keep my credit card statement after paying my bill?
Answer:  Karen, according to the experts, once you have paid your credit card bill, you should not keep it for more than one year.  There's always the danger of keeping things for too long.  That is, if you keep unnecessary things lying around and someone accidentally gets ahold of it, there is the danger of identity theft.

Thank you for your questions and I wish you a great day.
I'm Donna J Jodhan at the business desk.

Message from the president

Hello!  I'm Donna J Jodhan, and on behalf of the staff at Sterling Creations I'd like to take this opportunity to wish all of our readers the very best for 2008.

The year 2007 was a very successful one for us and we could not have done it without the support and feedback from our customers and readers.  Sterling Creations is a made in Canada company servicing clients both in Canada and beyond and we are committed to providing services that will assist our customers to bridge the communications divide through our writing, research, transcription, and translation services.  We look forward to continuing our sterling services to you.

I'd like to thank the staff at Sterling Creations for their sterling commitment and I invite you now to read our highlights section.

Highlights

The year 2007 was a very busy and successful one for us.  We managed to form business relationships with some new partners, and we were also delighted to have worked with some very interesting and exciting clients both here in Canada and abroad.  Here are just a few highlights.

We continued to work with various clients and associates in the accessibility arena and 2007 saw us mounting a charter challenge to the Canadian government.  In this challenge we file court documents against the Treasury Board Secretariat (TBS), Statistics Canada (StatsCan), and the Public Service Commission (PSC) and our objective was to press for systemic changes with regard to the way in which these three government departments administer their websites.

To be more precise, we launched this charter challenge against the TBS because of their failure to adhere to the duty to accommodate, against StatsCan for having failed to make their 2006 census accessible to all blind and visually impaired Canadians, and against the PSC for having failed to make their www.jobs.gc.ca website fully accessible to special needs Canadians.  This afore mentioned website is the gateway to all job opportunities within the Canadian government.  At the close of 2007 the government was still attempting to have our charter challenge stayed.

Our charter challenge was joined by Jutta Treviranis, manager of the Adaptive Technology Resource Center (ATRC) of the University of Toronto, and John Rae, representing the Alliance for the Equality of Blind Canadians (AEBC).  Jutta is very well known in the accessibility arena both for her expertise and for her tireless work with the W3C organization and John is a very well known member of the AEBC.  Our charter challenge is being handled by Bakerlaw.

In November of 2007, our president Donna J Jodhan participated in a five-day training session for Human Rights monitors.  Donna along with three other persons from Toronto and four others from Quebec were chosen to be part of a project sponsored by Disabled Rights Promotion International.  This project's objectives were to train persons with disabilities to become monitors who would then carry out a total of 100 interviews of other persons with disabilities across Ontario and Quebec.  The interviews would be digitally recorded and then downloaded to a secure server where they would be sent to researchers who would use them to write reports that would be then circulated to the Canadian government, the media, and organizations working for persons with disabilities.

This project has already been repeated in seven other countries and it is hope that it would be repeated in two additional centers in Canada.  The project's coordinators have said that this project is meant to interview those persons with disabilities who feel that their Human Rights have been violated and in addition it is meant to see whether or not the Canadian government has lived up to its promises of respecting the Human Rights of the disabled as has been set out in the recent United Nations agreement.

We also did some volunteer work with Professor John Kennedy, Chairman of the department of Life Sciences at the University of Toronto in July of 2007.  We met with some of professor Kennedy's students to discuss how blind and visually impaired persons visualize various objects, scenes, and drawings.

In 2007 our writing team worked with several clients in Britain and Australia.  Among them was an Australian Children's author of Greek mythology and a fiction author in Scotland.  Our writing team provided proof reading and editing services to the Children's author and ghost writing services to the fiction author.  They will continue to work with these two clients in 2008 and the research team will be providing their marketing research services to these two clients.

The writing team also continued to provide blog writing to several clients both in Canada and abroad and in addition, it provided proof reading and editing services to the Balance organization for their Fall 2007 Balance Beagle magazine.  In 2008 the writing team will be continuing its work in blog writing, copy writing, and has several new clients requiring proofreading, editing, and copywriting services.

Our research team was formed in 2007 in response to demand for research services and it has already found itself involved in several interesting and exciting projects.  In 2007 the research team worked with clients requiring research for Human Rights cases as well as for others seeking financial information for background on legal cases.

The translation and transcription teams also did well working with clients in French, Spanish, and Cantonese.  Most of their clients were based in
Europe and Asia and they were kept quite busy providing language coaching, translation, transcription, and ESL services.

At the end of 2007 Sterling Creations introduced a new team; its business team and as of January 2008 this team will be making monthly contributions to the free monthly online magazine.

Hidden markets for language translators

Hey there!  I'm Alix Shadonnay and a very happy new year to you out there.  I'd like to start the new year by telling you about some very hidden markets for language translators.
Most of us seem to be still under estimating the importance of language translators but this is rapidly changing.  There is so much for language translators to be happy about and there are so many little nooks and crannies for them to discover.  For example:
Right here in the United States is a growing niche for translators who can translate food and drug labels into different languages.  Health and food companies are desperately in need of language translators to help translate labels accurately because it is so important to do so.  With more and more consumers paying attention to the labels on their cans and boxes, the demand for properly translated labels is also growing.
Still with the United States, with the upcoming presidential election fast approaching, translators are being sought to help spread the message to the Hispanic and oriental sectors of our society.
Still in the United States, with the rapid development of a books, language translators are being sought to help ensure that these types of books reach every corner of America.
Getting the picture as yet?  Hurry now!
Want to learn more about how you can use translation services to reach more consumers?  Then please visit www.translationpeople.com and there you'll be treated to a variety of services that are very affordable and professional.

Time now for our weekly news round-up for translators.

Washington DC (SPX) Jan 29, 2008
Images from NASA telescopes are jewels of the space program, marvelous to behold. But how do you behold them when you can't see? The answer lies between the covers of a new NASA-funded book written in Braille, Touch the Invisible Sky. In an inspiring forward to the volume, blind mountain climber Erik Weihenmayer writes, "Sight ... is only one of the many tools with which to experience the marvels of the world."

Touch the Invisible Sky uses Braille, large type print, and tactile diagrams of celestial images observed by space telescopes Hubble, Chandra, and Spitzer to reveal the cosmos to the blind and seeing-impaired.

Many of the pictures in the book show the cosmos at wavelengths that no human eye can see--e.g., infra-red, ultraviolet and x-rays. "By showing these images, we remind readers that most of the universe and its beauty is hidden for all of our eyes unless we use special telescopes," says Doris Daou, a NASA astronomer who co-authored the book along with Noreen Grice and Simon Steele.

According to Kathleen Lestition, who coordinates Education and Outreach for the Chandra X-ray Center, "The Touch the Invisible Sky project began as a small mission grant, but NASA is making this book a national resource, distributing copies of the book at no cost to schools of the blind around the US, the Library of Congress, several blind technology and training centers, and state libraries that have astronomy collections."

Science@NASA asked two blind readers to review the book. Until age 15, Tim Hendel could see light and dark, colors, shadows, and large objects such as the sun and moon. He could not read print but learned to read Braille. Deborah Saylor was born totally blind and also reads Braille. Hendel and Saylor live in Huntsville, Alabama, and have been space enthusiasts since childhood. Both experienced Touch the Invisible Sky and shared their comments.

Tim Hendel
"Even though I've lived in Huntsville, which is nicknamed the 'Rocket City,' for twelve years, I had no idea what a space telescope looked like or how a star might be depicted on a map. There's not much information on this kind of thing in Braille, so I was thrilled to read Touch the Invisible Sky.

On page 4 is a depiction of all the wavelengths of the electro-magnetic spectrum, from radio to gamma-rays. It shows, in a way, that all humans are partially blind. No one can see gamma-rays! Yet the cosmos is bright and lively in these 'invisible' wavelengths.

I'm a ham radio operator, so I already had a good understanding of the radio part of the spectrum, but it's useful to see the entire spectrum shown on one diagram. I can show this diagram to some of my other blind friends to explain how the whole spectrum comes together and how astronomers use different kinds of telescopes to 'see' everything from radio waves to gamma-rays.

I knew that our sun emits light and heat, and I had a vague notion that there were other kinds of radiation that our sun and other stars emit. But looking at the diagrams in the book brought home to me just how little of the actual energy sent out by stars can be seen with the eyes or felt on the skin."

Deborah Saylor
"I moved to Huntsville a few years ago. After all these years of living here in the Rocket City and hearing about the space industry, I'm finally able to appreciate space exploration in the same way everyone else does! So I am, to say the least, very excited about being able to see this book!

The thing that impressed me so much about Touch the Invisible Sky was the way the authors put things together so I could experience what people with sight are seeing. The diagrams helped me to see, but, through touch. The explanations of the diagrams were very helpful for getting the ideas across.

I like this book a lot, and I recommend it to others. It's really something!"

Touch the Invisible Sky ends with the following analogy: "Imagine that you could only hear sound from the middle three keys on a piano and were asked to name a song.... Being able to study a star, nebula, or galaxy across the entire electromagnetic spectrum gives us the big picture, providing clues to unravel the greatest mysteries ...."

Saylor, a Van Cliburn finalist who plays entire piano concertos from memory, agrees: "The way to seek and learn the most is to develop as many ways of 'seeing' things as possible. And keep your sense of curiosity and wonder alive, always!"

That's exactly what scientists do as they journey through the cosmos, and now the blind can ride along.

Touch the Invisible Sky was authored by astronomy educator and accessibility specialist Noreen Grice of You Can Do Astronomy LLC and Museum of Science,
Boston, astronomer Simon Steel of the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics in Cambridge, MA, and astronomer Doris Daou of NASA. NASA funded the astronomy Braille book, which was publicly released Tuesday, January 15, 2008.

The tactile diagrams feature raised outlines and textures superimposed on the images themselves to indicate how the objects appear differently according to wavelength viewed in - for example, radio, infrared, visible, ultra-violet, or x-ray. The text clearly and concisely explains what each image shows, and even describes how the different types of telescopes capture the images.

The Braille and the tactile diagrams are done in clear acrylic overlay, so the large print type and high-resolution color images can be viewed as well as felt. Touch the Invisible Sky is therefore a useful teaching tool for mainstream classrooms and parents with blind children, making the same information accessible simultaneously by sighted, non-sighted, and reduced-vision readers.

this exciting news with you.
Today, at 11:30 a.m. in the Caribbean III room at ATIA, Art Schreiber, the Executive
Director of The AIR Foundation is making an announcement that changes the world of
accessibility.  AIR stands for
Accessibility Is a Right
, and this non-profit organization announces that, effective immediately, The AIR
Foundation promotes and delivers Serotek's AFB award-winning System Access To Go
(SAToGo) free of charge to anyone in the world anytime they are connected to the
Internet.  That's right.  As of January 31, 2008, accessibility is free!  The flavor
of accessibility that the world will be using is System Access To Go.
It has the full capability of System Access but it only works while the user is connected

Amazon to Buy Audiobook Seller for $300 Million - New York Times

February 1, 2008
Amazon to Buy Audiobook Seller for $300 Million
By BRAD STONE
Amazon.com, which has been rapidly adding digital downloads to its vast Web
store, said on Thursday that it had agreed to buy Audible, the largest
online seller of audiobooks.
Amazon will pay $300 million in cash for the company, or $11.50 a share, a
23 percent premium to the stock's closing price on Wednesday.
Audible, based in Newark, offers 80,000 audiobooks and spoken-word products
from magazines, radio shows and newspapers, including The New York Times. It
sells its digital files through its own Web site and, since 2003, through Apple's
popular iTunes service.
The deal will add Audible's products to Amazon's nascent digital media
offerings, which it has rolled out over the last 16 months. Customers can
now download movies, TV shows and music from Amazon instead of getting a DVD or
CD in the mail.
In the past, Amazon has sent customers who wanted to download audiobooks to
the Web site of Audible. The acquisition would allow it to offer digital
audiobooks on the Amazon site.
The move could also allow owners of the Kindle, Amazon's cream-colored
electronic book reader, to download audiobooks directly to the device.
Amazon introduced the Kindle to great fanfare late last year.
"The fact that the bottom of the Kindle has volume controls has always
thrown me off," said Evan Schnittman, vice president for business development and
rights at Oxford University Press. "But now there is a real coordination here that
is clicking all of a sudden. This is just another step in making the Kindle a
more universal product."
Steven Kessel, Amazon's senior vice president for worldwide digital media, would
not comment on how Amazon would use Audible or integrate audiobooks into its
products.
"We think that Audible for many years has been providing the best customer
experience in the spoken-word space," he said. "Now being able to have that
as part of the Amazon family is what gets us excited."
One question that the acquisition raises is how Apple will respond, because
Audible content is featured prominently on iTunes, and Apple and Amazon are
fiercely competing in digital media downloads.
Apple did not respond to a request for comment on the deal.
The audiobook market recorded $923 million in sales in 2006, up 6 percent
from 2005, according to the Audio Publishers Association. Internet downloads
accounted for 14 percent of sales, up from 9 percent in 2005.
Amazon and Audible could conceivably try to expand the online audiobook
market by loosening the content-protection software on Audible's downloads. The
software is intended to reduce illicit copying but also makes it more
difficult for consumers to transfer audiobooks between computers and other devices.
Audible was one of the first creators of the software known as digital
rights management, or D.R.M., which consumers often complain about.
"That is going to be one of the big questions," said Michael Gartenberg, an
analyst at Jupiter Research. "Can Amazon convince book publishers to do what
music labels have done and get rid of D.R.M. on these files to make them
play across the board?"
Mr. Kessel of Amazon said it was "too early to tell" whether publishers were
ready to make that leap. "We'll have to continue to listen to the customer
and work with content owners in this space to provide the best experience," he
said.
The acquisition provides a dignified exit for one of the most resilient
start-ups in Internet history. Audible was founded in 1995 by Donald R.
Katz, an author and writer, with backing from the venture capital firm Kleiner
Perkins Caufield & Byers and AT&T Ventures, among others. The company went public in
1999, but its shares dropped below a dollar after the dot-com bust and
stayed there for more than two years.
On Thursday, shares of Audible rose 22 percent, or $2.09, to $11.42; Amazon
jumped 4.7 percent, or $3.49, to $77.70.
The publishers Random House and Bertelsmann invested in Audible in 2000, as
did Amazon, which at the time purchased 5 percent of the company.

Questions and answers

Hello there!  I'm Donna J Jodhan and I'm here to answer some of your questions.  This week we have pulled a few questions out of our email bag that have been sent to us by you and I hope that I can do a good job at answering them.  Please keep your questions coming and if you need to know our address where you can send your questions to then here it is once again.  editor@untappedwealth.com.

Question from Bruce Reindhart:  Do you think that the travel industry is paying attention when it comes to servicing the demands of consumers with special needs?
Answer:  Bruce, I honestly believe that the travel industry is still not fully on board when it comes to really understanding why they need to pay more attention to the demands of travelers with special needs.  I don't think that they realize how important it is for them to become more aware of the needs and demands of those consumers who are seniors, consumers who are disabled, and consumers who have special needs.  I truly believe that the travel is hoping that this challenge will somehow go away but here is a news flash!  It's not going to go away and with a rapidly aging population, these needs and demands are only going to increase and sooner than later governments around the world will have to use legislation to force the travel industry to comply.

Question from Jay Hollingsworth:  Can you tell me the meaning of SAD?  I am not sure if it's a type of depression or what?
Answer:  Jay, SAD stands for seasonal adjustment depression and it does exist.  Millions of North Americans suffer from SAD and it's a type of depression that afflicts those who have difficulty dealing with changing seasons.  I believe that many of those who suffer from SAD suffer most during the fall and winter months.

Question from Anne Gault:  Is it true that more and more women are choosing to leave the boardroom for their own businesses?
Answer: Anne, there does seem to be a trend towards more and more women leaving the boardroom to pursue their own business ventures.  In a recent CNN survey it was disclosed that 2006 stats showed that more women were leaving corporate life choosing to start their own businesses and it was also shown through this survey that there were more women starting their own businesses in 2006 than there were new businesses being opened.

Question from Mary Logan:  Is there really a glass ceiling for women in the workplace?
Answer:  Mary, many experts believe that a glass ceiling does really exist and I'm afraid that the stats are there to back up their belief.  There are so many companies out there, big and medium sized who still operate under the old school where they believe that women do not belong in the boardroom and that they are better off at home with the kids.  It's a very hot topic these days and I as a woman truly hope that this glass ceiling starts cracking soon.

Till next week then, I'm Donna J Jodhan wishing you a great week ahead.

Breaking news from Amazon

Good day everyone!  I'm Jeff N Marquis at the business desk and today I bring you news from the world of Amazon.  I don't think that many of you have seen this breaking news as yet and I feel that it is important enough for us to share it with you.  This news is poised to change the landscape of how we buy and read audio books and it's really news for you to digest and take advantage of.  So, without much more ado and fanfare, here goes.

Some important answers to important questions

Hello out there!  My name is Donna J Jodhan and I'm delighted to be making my début as a regular contributor to the business desk.  It is my pleasure to be with you and my weekly contribution will consist of answering some questions each week.  Each week we will pull a few questions from our email bag and do our best to provide answers.  So, with much more ado, here goes.

Question  from Fred Dixon:  What is your opinion on those companies who have chosen to relocate their call centers to India?
Answer:  I am not very happy about this entire situation.  I know that companies have done this and continue to do this in order to reduce their overhead costs but there have been huge back lashes to this.  By this I mean that many jobs have been lost right here in North America and those being most affected are those millions of persons who have depended on these types of jobs for so many years to help supplement their incomes.  Retirees, single parents, persons seeking a second income for their families, students, and persons with disabilities.  I am also very much against having call centers in India because the general opinion is that most of these call are not well trained when it comes to having adequate and appropriate phone skills, their product knowledge is woefully lacking, and they do not speak the English language very well.

Question from Shane Good:  Do you think that the American economy is headed for a recession?
Answer:  I do believe that we are mighty close to one.  With the mortgage crisis creating havoc at the present time, the president is doing his best to implement some short term measures or stop gap measures for the short term but as to whether or not they will work is anyone's guess.  If a recession is going to happen then it will happen much sooner than later and we have to be prepared to deal with it by spending smarter, saving more wisely, and investing in markets that are real.

Question from Cathy Ireland:  I need some advice on how sound is it to start up a culinary business and who should I be targeting?
Answer:  Cathy, a culinary business if I think it's what you mean is always a good business to start.  There are practically millions of persons out there who will only be too glad to know about your business but before I go on, let me specify what I mean by a culinary business.  A culinary business is one where you offer to cook special dishes for persons who are just too busy to do it for themselves.  A culinary business can also mean you preparing special meals for persons with special needs.  I.E, diabetics, persons with special dietary requirements, and those who are concerned with eating right.  So, to be in a nutshell and in answer to your question, I do believe that a culinary business has much potential.

If you'd like to have your question answered by me, please drop us your email at editor@untappedwealth.com and if chosen, we would be delighted to answer you.
At the business desk, I'm Donna J Jodhan wishing you a very pleasant Saturday.
